About Us

(Copy of the new members, or general enquiry, 'Welcome letter')

C.M.A.C. was formed some 60 years ago with the idea of promoting the sport of aero modelling.

Looking at our activities today we still have that same aim, and some of our founder members still take part in the club.  Over the years the complexity of the equipment has changed dramatically and computer controlled radio equipment and sophisticated models are frequently used by some of our members. On the other extreme there are still some home designed free flight indoor models which are built and flown by our members at some of our indoor meetings.

The club members fly Control line aircraft, Gliders, Electric powered fixed wing aircraft,  Electric powered micro light models,  Internal combustion powered fixed wing aircraft, helicopters, multi-rotors (drones) and indoor flying.

All members of the club must also become members of the British Model Flying Association (B.M.F.A.) which is the National governing body for the sport and will provide third party insurance for model flying activities to its members.

We have a strict code of conduct to ensure safety and also to protect our use of the site.  All members must pass a flying proficiency test before being allowed to fly on their own.  The club has its own training officer, instructors and B.M.F.A. approved examiners who will provide training for the student to learn to fly their model aircraft.

The club carries out a number of displays throughout the year and runs at least one display a year as a fund raising event for a registered charity.

The club usually meets on the second Tuesday of each month, in the Winter at the CSMEE Club House President Road, Colchester where we usually have talks on model flying and its associated activities, videos, and general discussions, and during the summer the venue is at the Marks Tey Flying site where there will be an evening Barbecue and general flying.

Flying activities take place most days including Sundays and a special training session on Tuesday or Wednesday evening (weather dependent) are held at the appointed flying sites which are advised in our diary of events.

You are most welcome to come along and meet us at one of our flying sessions or our club meeting to see if we can offer you the facilities you require.  Club membership fees are listed on the downloadable membership application form, however I would suggest that first of all you come along and meet us at one of our meetings where you can see if you would like to join us.

You will, I am sure find that you are made most welcome, and that any of the members will be more than willing to offer you advice on model flying activities or equipment.

Should you require any further information please contact me.
